Gentrieve 2 Update: Generation Fixes

Hey all,

After a bit of testing & user reports (thanks!), I identified and fixed 2 room generation bugs. The first would make some grappling hook bars too short & the other allowed junk to be placed in front of doors in small item rooms. Due to these changes, you may notice worlds being generated slightly different due to the random number generator being accessed a bit differently.

Gentrieve 2: Bosses & more tweaks

Hey all,

After some feedback, I’ve made some tweaks to the boss battles which should normalize things a bit — not too hard or easy fights anymore. I’ve also made some small tweaks to the lighting & hopefully have resolved the sporadic “Out of memory” errors when reloading from a game in progress.

Gentrieve 2: Important crash update!

Hey all,

Whoops! v1.8 shipped with a nasty audio crashing bug — this happened because jMonkeyEngine made an important update in their audio code that uncovered a problem in Gentrieve 2. I needed to convert some of my audio files to mono so they could be positioned correctly in 3D space. So, this should all be straightened out in v1.9!

Gentrieve 2 Update: Fixes & Balancing

Hey all,

Thanks to your continued feedback, another very important Gentrieve 2 update is available. I finally found out the root cause of a nasty bug that made some worlds unbeatable: some rooms were being assigned too many doors in a rare circumstance, causing a required path to not be generated. I’ve also made some tweaks along with this fix to hopefully further balance the game, including making health upgrades easier to find & making limbs (particularly boss limbs) easier to destroy (which will also disable the weapons on that limb). You may also notice the maps to be more “hubby”, hehe — that is, more hubs and less linear paths. Check out the version history for all the changes!

Gentrieve 2 Update: v1.5!

Hey all,

This is primarily a balancing update based on forum feedback. Changes in v1.5 should provide a more balanced and fun experience as the game progresses. Enemies will generally have less health later in the game & be vulnerable to more weapons. I’ve also made the “Advanced Vision” upgrade appear later in the game, but be easier to find — this should make it easier to find secret rooms that have important health boosts (and more). Finally, when you are low on health, I made enemies always drop needed items (like more health).

Gentrieve 2 is entering a “maintenance” mode, like 3079. Therefore, it will continue to be supported with bugfixes & balancing tweaks over time, but the game is otherwise finished. This is because Gentrieve 2 has reached a stable & fun milestone and development time is going to shift to my next big project: 3089!

Gentrieve 2 Update & New Game Announced!

Hey all,

Gentrieve 2 is now out of beta @ v1.2! Lots of improvements included — thank you for all your suggestions in the forums!

Also, I have announced my next big project, the sequel to 3079: 3089!
